Last month the cities of Kashmir and Jammu in India were hit by the most devastating floods and landslides the area has seen in 60 years. These floods killed more than 281 people and left the main city of Srinagar in ruins, displacing over 230,000 people. Along with the two main cities, around 400 other villages have also been affected by this disaster. United Way has set up a recovery fund for the people affected by what has been classified as a national-level calamity. Donations from all over the world will support the recovery and rebuilding of the cities. They will also aid in the improvement of education, financial stability and health care during the rebuilding period.
