Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs has selected five undergraduates from the class of 2016 for the Scholars in the Nation’s Service Initiative. The Initiative was started in 2006 to encourage, support and prepare students in their pursuit of careers in the U.S. federal government in international and domestic agencies.
"I'm delighted to extend congratulations to the five students selected as SINSI Scholars for 2016," said Cecilia Rouse, dean of the Wilson School. "They are an outstanding group of students with remarkable qualifications, and I am certain we will hear of their many achievements as they embark upon careers in public service."
The Students recognized were Nathan Eckstein, studying Latin American studies and humanistic studies, Jamal Johnson, a politics major, Abyssinia Lissanu, politics major, Michelle Nedashkovskaya, politics major and Alex Wheatley, ecology and evolutionary biology major.

SPIDER Update: We have Lift off
On January 1st 2015, Princeton University research team successfully launched SPIDER, the telescope, over Antarctica. The telescope will spend around 20 days above the continent studying the early universe.

""At this early stage things are looking as good as we could hope," said William Jones, an assistant professor of physics at Princeton University, in an email from Antarctica. Jones is the leader of the multi-institution effort to launch the balloon-borne telescope."

Class of 2019 for Princeton University
Princeton University has officially sent out their first round of acceptance letters to the Class of 2019. Of the 3,850 applicants 767 high school seniors we’re sent letters on December 15th. Of the students accepted, 41 percent are U.S. students from diverse backgrounds and 11 percent are international students. 47 percent of the admitted students are women. The students represent 33 countries and 45 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Sixty percent of the admitted students were public school students, and 10 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Fifteen percent of the admitted students are the children of Princeton alumni. About 21 percent of the students are looking to study engineering at Princeton. Regular decision candidates have a deadline of January 1st 2015 and will receive their notification mail in late March.

Princeton University Chooses Class Day Speaker
For Princeton University’s Class Day Ceremony held on June 1, 2015 the graduating class chose Christopher Nolan to deliver the keynote speech. This ceremony highlights the achievements of many students throughout the year as well as a way for the graduating class to reflect on their journey.
"Nolan, more than a film producer, is a thinker and visionary in our age and we are thrilled to have him deliver the keynote address, I admire Christopher Nolan's tireless commitment to making movies that are entertaining and innovative, but most importantly, meaningful." said Class Day co-chair Hanna Kim.
Nolan, is known for his work on movies such as Inception, The Prestige, Dark Knight trilogy, as well as the newly released Interstellar. The class chose Nolan for his “unconventional story lines and his innovative filmmaking.” He is looked at as a pioneer in film making. The Class Day ceremony will be held on Cannon Green at 10:30 a.m.

President Jimmy Carter to speak on new book at Princeton University

In 1982, President Carter and his wife Rosyln founded The Carter Center, dedicated to continued peace and health worldwide. Carter has penned many books and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
His most recent book, A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence and Power looks at the discrimination and abuse of women and girls. Carter reflects on the acts of discrimination that extended to women all over the world he personally witnessed in his travels to over 145 different countries. He also takes a look at the religious views on the superiority of men to women which is often used to justify the abuse of women and children in some countries.

SPIDER Starts Its Journey to Antartica

The SPIDER team will beginning their journey to Antarctica in mid-October to unpack and settle the craft. The day of the launch after a three hour ascent SPIDER will remain in contact with the researchers for about 24 hours. SPIDER will say in orbit until early January when the researchers have about a week to locate the craft before the harsh winter hits.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to give public talk at Princeton University
On September 9th, Princeton University announced that October 28th 2014 they will be hosting His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to address students as well as the community about kindness, compassion, and intellect. In his talks the Dalai Lama will stress the importance of developing these attributes in an academic environment.
His Holiness will be addressing a small group of students and faculty during an afternoon conversation engaging participants to discuss the school's informal motto “In the Nation’s Services and in the Services of all Nations.”
The Dalai Lama is believed to be an enlightened being who takes rebirth instead on nirvana to serve humanity, to embody the compassion of all Buddhas and to be the patron. His holiness goes through years of training, learning subjects such as logic, Tibetan art and culture, Sanskrit, metaphysics, and the perfection of wisdom.
The Dalai Lama now travels all over the world teaching and giving talks. He speaks about topics such as Buddhism, Compassion, World Peace, and Religious Harmony.
The talk at Princeton will be free to the public and is titled “Develop the Heart”, it will be held in Jadwin Gymnasium at 9:30 am.
